To tell the truth, Flyin’ Home wasn’t supposed to be a country-western song, but it mutated as I was arranging it, and so here we are. The message and the music fit together nicely, though; the lyrics speak of our blessed hope that Jesus will return to take us from this earth, and the music rejoices in that hope.
The clue is situational in nature. While Peggy was a member of Living Water, she lived with her father in Cupertino. Now and then she’d head to southern California to her mom’s place for a weekend. Since her mom worked for an airline, it was easier, faster, and cheaper (i.e. free!) for her to fly between houses. Hence “flyin’ home.”
One blessed day the trump of God will call us from this earth,
And the skies will split apart at His command,
Then the dead in Christ shall rise from their graves as if in birth,
And the living saints go with them to God’s glorious land.
We’re flyin’ home to the Savior and the place that He’s prepared
in the Father’s house above,
We’re flyin’ home to the One whom the Lord did not spare
to bring salvation through His love.
That moment when the Savior transports us to heaven’s door
Could arrive at any second, any hour,
And the patience of the saints will be rewarded evermore
When we leave this troubled world by resurrection power.
So commit your life to Jesus, He’s the resurrected Lord,
He’s the One who gives us hope for every day,
Put your trust upon the Savior in accordance with God’s Word,
And you’ll join us in the Rapture when we fly away.
