Church Calendar: Christmas

Hebrews 13:8 says that “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” His character doesn’t change, which means that we can rely on Him absolutely at all times. After all, if the anchor of your soul spent its time shifting around, you wouldn’t have any measurable confidence for the near future, let alone eternity. But praise God that the Lord Jesus is unaffected by time and circumstances, and that we can rely on Him in every eventuality!

“Yesterday, today, and forever” – those words point to His work in human lives. “Yesterday” is a reflection on what Jesus did at the cross: He gave Himself as the payment for our sins. God’s infinite, unending love for us manifested itself if ultimate sacrifice so that we might live by faith in His Son.

“Today” points to the Savior’s present work in changing human hearts, first by saving those who will believe on Him by faith, and then by bringing the lives and character of those people into conformity with His own life and character.

“Forever” points to the eternity His people will spend with Him.

This is Cheryl’s song for a couple of reasons. The first is that the key signatures are her initials. The other reason… well, that’s personal. Sorry I can’t tell you. You’ll have to ask her…

Christ has come, bringing joy and peace to the world
Bringing life and hope to all men,
If they will just believe.

Christ is here, living in the hearts of His own,
Giving strength to face the days ahead,
If they will lean on Him.

He is the one Redeemer,
He is the Savior,
He is the Lord who gives us life,
He is the coming King!

Christ will come, in His power claiming the throne,
He will reign in glory on the earth,
He will conquer,
He will rule,
He will own the praises of His people evermore!
Amen.
