LWCP – The Beginning
The 1989-1990 season was marked by a number of profound changes in Living Water’s ministry. We had just completed our first summer season, and I’d already decided to have us continue year round. It also was the first year that I personally felt a reasonable level of “ownership” as our director (in some sense, I’d been around long enough to have outlived the past of the High School Choir, as Living Water used to be called). And, of course, this year also saw the first volume of the Living Water Composition Project.
“The Lord Will Give Me Wings” was the first song I presented to LW, and it became both a group as well as a congregational favorite. God blessed us tremendously as we sang it twice in 1990 with Jesse Cecil reading Isaiah 40:31 to introduce his song.
There was no way to see beyond the season at hand and the wonderful ministry God gave us as we sang for Him (if I could have, it probably would have been quite daunting; besides, the Lord expects us to take life one step at a time). Sometime during the season, the LWCP puzzle and its rules emerged; it’s been a source of great fun for me ever since.
And then God brought one of the driving factors of the Living Water Composition Project to mind: Writing a song dedicated to even one of the members makes me honor-bound to write one for each of the members. I was therefore committed to the LWCP unconditionally (since I hoped to retire from Living Water only by death or Rapture), and accepted this responsibility, ministry, and trust from God gladly.
