LWCP – Rejoicing
The ninth year of the Living Water Composition Project seemed to be more of an extension of the previous year’s work than a separate entity of its own (well, duh…). But in many ways it did indeed have a character of its own. For one thing, two of the songs, “No Matter Who Leaves Me” and “Faith Will Keep Us In Jesus’ Hand”, just had to be written on relatively short notice because Rachel and Cassandra both moved out of the South Bay Area. And I continued to work on the “catch-up” phase of the LWCP.
As usual, my predilections surfaced, especially in the piano parts. One technical point which I still find fascinating is how much more challenging the accompaniment to the last chorus of “Unfailing Love” becomes when a handful of grace notes are added to the original accompaniment.
If you care about musical trivia, this marks the point at which the LWCP finally has used all the standard key signatures. “Keep Me Pressing On” was the song which completed this cycle – it’s in seven flats, and gives the basses a chance to sing low C-flat.
