The Sk (shake) notation appears in several ways on a score:
- As the symbol Sk
- As the symbol Sk, with a squiggle extending to the right
- As a squiggle
For the sake of clarity, the Sk should always be present. However, a lone Sk, with or without a squiggle, can appear ambiguous above a chord, because it doesn’t say whether all notes in the chord – or just the top one – are to be shaken.
So the best way to notate a (chordal) shake unambiguously is to write Sk, and then to add a squiggle to the right of each note to be shaken. In Dorico, this means we need a stretchable squiggle to place to the right of shaken notes.
