It’s Our Anniversary!

Today is our tenth anniversary! Not Choraegus (we celebrated 26 years at the end of last year), but OURS, as in Larry & Carla. From God making it possible for us to meet on the Handbell Community Online, to Facebook, to Skype, and through the Bay View Week of Handbells, where we met and got engaged, to moving to California and subsequently Holland, MI to become West Michigan’s Smallest Handbell Choir, we’re celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary today!

Faith of Our Fathers (ST. CATHERINE) – for twelve handbells

The Christian faith is all about continuity. God has made the Church so that it grows and lives by believers telling other people about His infinite grace and the salvation they can have. Many of us can trace a bit of our “spiritual lineage” through those who made it possible for us to come to faith.

We realize, though, that “fathers” means more than “male parents”, because some of the well-known saints became what they are through their mothers and other people!

Doxology (OLD HUNDREDTH) (Handbells, 3 to 5 octaves plus optional D8, Level 1)

The Doxology is sung in churches around the world, often as a congregational response to the presentation of tithes and offerings. We have two versions in our handbell choir package based on the hymn tune OLD HUNDREDTH so that you can use the one which is more familiar to your church family. Both versions are in G major, the key in which the Doxology is presented in most hymnals.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him all creatures here below,
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

John Wyeth or Asahel Nettleton wrote this lovely hymn tune back in 1813, and the message of the lyrics that are set to it continue to comfort and inspire Christians today. You’ll enjoy playing our new twelve-bell arrangement!

Smiles, written in 1917 by J. Will Callahan and Lee S. Roberts, is a song about the happiness brought by a dear one’s smile. We have a special, albeit indirect, attachment to this song, because in front of one cottage at the Bay View Association there’s a sign that declares that this cute little song was written there!
