O, the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus (EBENEZER) – for sixteen handbells

O the Deep, Deep Love of Jesus is sung to the hymn tune EBENEZER, which means “stone of help.” Jesus is the Rock of Ages, and our Eternal Rescuer; He is the One to whom we must turn for salvation. Our new arrangement for sixteen handbells is straightforward to play with a bit of enjoyable challenge, and is available in C5-B6 and G4-F#6 versions, with the G4-F#6 version fitting the range of a standard two-octave handbell set.

O the deep, deep love of Jesus! Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free,
rolling as a mighty ocean in its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me, is the current of Thy love;
leading onward, leading homeward, to Thy glorious rest above.

Tell Me the Story of Jesus (STORY OF JESUS) – for sixteen handbells

Frances (Fanny) Crosby was one of the most famous American hymn writer. Despite being blind, the words she wrote showed that she had a spiritual sight far beyond that of most. Her passion was to know her Savior, and this hymn (tune written by John Sweney) is a prayer for deepening of that everlasting relationship. Here is our arrangement of this song for sixteen handbells.

Tell me the story of Jesus, write on my heart every word;
tell me the story most precious, sweetest that ever was heard.
Tell how the angels, in chorus, sang as they welcomed His birth,
“Glory to God in the highest! Peace and good tidings to earth.”

Praise God, Ye Servants of the Lord (ANDRE) – for eight handbells and piano

William Bradbury wrote hymn tunes that are still well-known more than a century later. He Leadeth Me and Sweet Hour of Prayer are two that still appear in hymnals of today. His lively tune ANDRE may be less familiar, but it still suggests praise and rejoicing when played. Our arrangement for eight handbells and piano will be a welcome addition to your repertoire.

Praise God: ye servants of the Lord, O praise, the Lord’s name praise.
Yea, blessed be the name of God from this time forth always.
From rising sun to where it sets, God’s name is to be prais’d.
Above all nations God is high, ’bove heav’ns his glory rais’d.
Unto the Lord our God that dwells on high, who can compare?
Himself that humbleth things to see in heav’n and earth that are.

O Zion, Haste (TIDINGS) – for eight handbells and piano

The Great Commission has been given to the Church (figuratively, “Zion”). That responsibility is to share the love of Christ with the world so that all may be saved. In this hymn, the tune TIDINGS evokes images of this responsibility as spiritual marching orders. Our arrangement for eight handbells and piano will work especially well for a Missions Sunday!

O Zion, haste, your mission high fulfilling,
to tell to all the world that God is light;
that He who made all nations is not willing
one soul should perish, lost in shades of night.

Behold how many thousands still are lying,
bound in the darksome prison-house of sin,
with none to tell them of the Savior’s dying,
or of the life He died for them to win.

Proclaim to ev’ry people, tongue, and nation
that God, in whom they live and move, is love:
tell how He stooped to save his lost creation,
and died on earth that we might live above.

Publish glad tidings, tidings of peace;
tidings of Jesus, redemption, and release.

There’s a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar,

To prepare us a dwelling place there.

We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by,

You Must Trust – for SATB choir

You Must Trust, the sixty-fifth of the Living Water songs, not only has a solid message, but it’s fun to sing. Mike, the one to whom it’s dedicated, once got the basses and tenors going by adding some incredible finger snaps. Though written for SATB choir, it works just as well with a men’s ensemble by inverting the chord voicings.

We hope you take a moment to listen to our new audio recording!

(Just a note: This MP3 is a men’s chorus voicing of the original SAB score – because those were the voices I could record…)

“Battle Hymn” for Twelve Bells

Battle Hymn of the Republic is one of the best-known American patriotic hymns of the nineteenth century. Here’s our arrangement for twelve handbells!

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord,
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored,
He has lost the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword,
His truth is marching on!

Glory, Glory, Hallelujah,
Glory, Glory, Hallelujah,
Glory, Glory, Hallelujah,
His truth is marching on!

I have seen Him in the watch fires of a hundred circling camps
They have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps;
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps;
His day is marching on.

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat;
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat;
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet;
Our God is marching on.

In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me:
As He died to make men holy, let us live to make men free;

[originally “let us die to make men free“]

My Faith Has Found a Resting Place (LANDÅS) (Handbells, 3 or 5 octaves, plus handchimes, 2 octaves, Level 3)

My Faith Has Found a Resting Place elegantly states the key truth of salvation: It is enough that Jesus died, and that He died for me.” No effort on our part will make a difference either way, because all we need to do is put our trust in Him. Here’s our new arrangement of this classic hymn.

My faith has found a resting place,
Not in device, nor creed;
I trust the ever-living One,
His wounds for me shall plead.

I need no other argument,
I need no other plea,
It is enough that Jesus died,
And that He died for me.
