Apocryphal story: Chopin, bored of hanging out with George Sand in Europe, decided to take a vacation to the then-young United States of America. He visited the Midwest, notably St. Louis, MO, and after that took a side trip to South America… and so we have the Funeral Tango. It’s all of the following:
- Classic Chopin music, more or less…
- A tango in the true Argentinian sense, more or less (probably more like the kind of tango we hear in today’s movies, though)…
- A twelve-bar blues, more or less…
Well… Mies van der Rohe used to say, “less is more”. We think the opposite is true. Anyway, have fun playing this arrangement which could be billed as “that passionate song for the one you really hoped would go away”. 😀
