Return to Eight-Bell Hymns (General)

To God Be the Glory (TO GOD BE THE GLORY) – Eight handbells

Fanny Crosby and William Doane were a “dynamic duo” of hymn-writing in the decades on either side of the year 1900. She wrote the words, and he composed the music. One of their best-known hymns is To God Be the Glory Personal note: This was the favorite hymn of Larry’s great-aunt Pat!

To God be the glory, great things He has done;
So loved He the world that He gave us his Son,
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin,
And opened the lifegate that all may go in.

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord; let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory; great things He has done.

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,
To every believer the promise of God;
The vilest offender who truly believes,
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives.

Great things He has taught us, great things He has done,
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son;
But purer and higher and greater will be
Our wonder, our transport, when Jesus we see.

    Hi Kathy!

    The “Surprisingly Easy”™ versions are less challenging than the “standard” versions. As Carla is fond of saying, they have “all the music, but without the twiddly bits.” In terms of actual notes, a quarter note beat is (almost always) divided only as far as eighth notes.

    We have a video of each eight-bell arrangement on its webpage on our site. If there are both easy and standard versions for the same melody, they appear side by side so that you can more easily choose between the scores.

    Also, you’re welcome to download and play our free eight-bell arrangements. These are all in the “easy” range.

    Thank you for visiting Choraegus. Do let me know if you have further questions.

    Happy Ringing,
    Larry
