The eighth volume of the Living Water Composition Project began with the first of a projected seventy-plus “catch-up” songs. The LWCP had begun a couple of years after my taking charge of Living Water, which meant that there were quite a few members from the first couple of years who didn’t have songs.
A Child Of The King, is Mark’s song because of the same sort of play on words which is found in Amy Chan’s song, (Creation Song), where her parents’ names are written into the lyrics. The clue for the sixty-second LWCP song is less obvious, though: “I’m a child of the Great Physician, the Beloved…” points to Mark’s parents “Doc” and Cherie .
I’m a child of the Great Physician,
The Beloved, and the King,
He’s the One who gives me life –
My Lord who makes me sing.
God gave me my breath and being,
Yet I despised His name,
Though I turned my back on Him
He loved me just the same.
And when my life in ruins lay, to Him I had to yield,
Then He, the Savior of my soul, touched me and I was healed.
God gave me eternity,
Yet from the good I stray,
Though I walk on paths I choose,
He calls for me each day.
And when the trail comes to an end, and I’ve nowhere to go,
The Lord will hear my desp’rate call and bring me to His fold.
