The key to this song is a bit obvious, and everyone caught it immediately. I recall that Christ gave me this “don’t ever do this to me again” look. However, his sister Alison loved it.
This was my first attempt at writing music in a black Gospel style. Frankly, it shows a need for some additional experience and education on my part, but at least it works reasonably well.
Make me a noble Christian, a true child of my Lord,
Rescue me from conformity to the system of this world,
Make me a noble Christian, a true child of my King,
Change my life in every way, I give You everything.
Lord, teach me all Your ways, cause me to understand
the glory of Your holiness and the power of Your hand.
I’ll be submissive to Your staff and Your rod,
For the One who cares for me is the everlasting God.
Lord, show me how to live, set me ever free
from the walls of sin which hem me in when I’m living naturally,
Transform my willing heart, possess it as Your own,
So the world will see that Jesus Christ is Lord and Lord alone.
