Dan was another senior high football player who served with Living Water. I recall that he always gave his best effort, which is exactly what God requires of each of us. Dan’s willingness to continue striving for the mark of perfection in service is commemorated here.

The actual clue is in the key signatures of D minor and G major – the note names are Dan’s initials. An interesting sidelight is that this probably is the first LWCP song to be performed for the first time by a group other than Living Water; this group was the adult choir of the Livermore First Baptist Church (now Cedar Grove Community Church).

As I run the race of the Christian life,
I fight for every breath,
I press ahead to the mark of Christ
to follow Him in left and death.
And though I don’t know for sure when this racetrack will end,
In Jesus I’m secure till victory – I will see Him then!

I’m in the race for Jesus Christ, I am running for the crown,
I’ve given all to serve His cause and to increase His renown,
I’m in the fight for Jesus Christ, I am striving for my Lord,
I’ve given all to serve His cause, for His joy is my reward.

As I fight to honor Christ my Lord
I will stay in God’s control,
I will not be one who punches air,
I’ll keep my eyes on the goal.
And though I don’t know for sure when this boxing match will end,
In Jesus I’m secure till victory – I will see Him then!
