The beauty of a simple piece can emphasize the message therein contained in a special way. He Is Always Near is one of those songs which does so; the message is that in spite of circumstances, God is near us and wants us to turn to Him. This is true especially in the circumstances cited in the text: loneliness, conflict, temptation, and death – the Lord is always near, and if we choose to submit to His will and way, we will have the Spirit-based reassurance of that.
This song is Amy’s because of the notation Piano opt. m.s. only on the first measure of the score. It indicates that the entire accompaniment can be played left-handed; at the time this song was written, Amy was the only left-handed Living Water member who didn’t yet have a song.
The accompaniment has been used by God to motivate our accompanists to achieve new levels of skill. More than once I’ve had the pleasure of having one of them come to me to say that she’d learned the part one-handed.
Friends come and go, but God continues on, He stays right beside us though they may be gone, His presence is with us to give warmth and cheer, When we need a companion, He is always near. Storms threaten and bluster, but God protects from harm, Temptation assails us, but God will make us strong, Life withers and fades, but God is yet the Lord, |
