What’s your aspiration? The Apostle Paul had the right one – “that I might know [Jesus Christ], and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His suffering, being conformed to His death, if by any means I might attain to the resurrection of the dead.”

Eternal goals are possible only through eternal investment. That means that whenever we seek to become famous, or to get rich, or to earn more degrees as our ultimate purposes, we’re settling for short-term, perishable gains at the cost of forsaking heavenly rewards. This doesn’t mean they’re bad in themselves, though – you can invest them in the Lord’s service when you have them. But… but… but… you must think of them in those terms, because to fail to do so is to claim them for yourself and your own piddly self-glory and to attempt to rob the Eternal God of His right to use them for His praise.

So… I need an “identity change” just as badly as you do, and I must fight the battle of submitting myself to Jesus Christ every moment of every day so that He will be pleased to call me His “good and faithful servant.” I encourage you to honor Him with your life, starting with receiving the amazing gift of everlasting life which Jesus died to give you.

Two clues indicate that this song is written for Jay:

  • The clue in the music is the guitar chords. As of this writing, Jay’s been getting into playing guitar for our senior high worship team, and practices a lot to ensure his effectiveness in ministry.
  • The othe clue is tied to the Apostle. His identity change was from “Saul”, which means “exalted”, to “Paul”, which means “little” – hence the clue.

Your ways, O Lord, are far beyond my reach,
The place You live is not mine to claim,
So for me to spend eternity in Your presence,
I need to be branded with Your holy Name.

Give me a change of identity,
Show Your mighty hand in my life,
Fill with the power of the Spirit to conquer,
Conform me to the image of Jesus Christ!
Let me live with a sense of Your majesty,
Cause me to overflow with Your love,
Make me warrior true to the Savior,
Bring victory reflecting Your glory above!

Lord, if I take Your name to be my own,
My life must change completely this hour,
But spending forever with You is my hope,
So claim my life through Your glorious power!

Pure and Holy, Glorious and True,
Rock of Ages, I believe in You
Claim the vict’ry in my life today,
Lead me in the everlasting way!
