Commissioned compositions are works created by special request. In the handbell world, commission requests usually specify number of octaves of handbells, level of difficulty, whether it's an original piece or an arrangement of an existing work, commission fee, and delivery terms. Sometimes other items are agreed on, such as certain handbell techniques that are to be utilized, or special emphasis on a particular playing position to commemorate a certain member. It's customary for the one(s) commissioning the work to specify the deidcatory text on the first page of the finished work.
